To balance female hormones is one of the most crucial tasks for a woman after age 25. For it is after this age that fluctuations begin to occur in our two hormones that make us fertile females: estrogen and progesterone. As we get older, these two hormones play a little fluctuation dance in our bodies, and this can wreak havoc on our day to day lives. So it makes sense to learn about the causes, symptoms and treatments for hormones imbalance.
Not only does our female body naturally begin to lose it’s hormonal balance as we get older, but our environment plays a role as well. From the foods we eat to the air we breathe, we are exposed to xenohormones which basically are fake hormones in disguise that throw off our hormone balance. Excess hormones, in particular, estrogen, is the cause in 85% of the cases of breast cancer. As we age, our progesterone begins to shut off first, causing an imbalance with the estrogen and our estrogen production goes haywire. This hormone imbalance causes weight gain as well as many other symptoms. So it is important to balance the female hormones, long before the day of freedom comes, or more technically, menopause!
How do you know if you are premenopausal, which is termed, perimenopause? The symptoms include sleeplessness, fatigue, irregular periods, shorter menstrual cycle, hot flashes, weight gain, mood swings, bloating, gas, headaches, vaginal dryness, and loss of sexual desire. Yippee!!! Menopause actually only lasts one day, and it is the exact day 12 months after your period stops. So most of the symptoms we attribute to menopause are really due to perimenopause.
Traditionally, the treatment for hormonal imbalance during perimenopause was Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). There are synthetic estrogen and progesterone type hormones that doctors can prescribe to thwart the hormone imbalance. But from what I’ve found in my research, there are many dangerous side effects that can occur when taking some of these synthetic hormones. For instance, it’s been found that your risk of breast cancer increases by 800% when using synthetic progesterone (progestin), as opposed to using estrogen alone. So I urge you to do your research before putting any synthetic hormone in your body, because you may do more harm than good. Be informed so that you can weigh the benefits vs. the risks. And as always, consult your doctor.
I highly recommend using natural, herbal remedies to balance your hormones. I figure that if nature made it, it should be safe to put into your body! There are natural remedies that have been formulated to reduce the symptoms of menopause which contain phytoestrogen botanicals. These herbs balance hormones and help alleviate the mood swings, hot flashes, depression, and other symptoms, whether premenopausal, postmenopausal, or even after a hysterectomy. Once my Mom began taking these herbal pills to cure her perimenopausal symptoms , her life began to get a semblance of normalcy again… bye-bye hot flashes and mood swings!
In conclusion, I just want you to know that you don’t have to "white knuckle" it while you’re going through the change in life. The symptoms can be miserable, and it can make us miserable to be around. So seek treatment, talk to your doctor, weigh your options, and see if maybe the herbal route is best for you. You’ll never know until you try! The herbal remedy my Mom uses even has a free trial - just pay for shipping. And at least you won’t be putting your body at more risk with synthetic hormones.
If you don’t like taking pills, there’s even an all natural menopause gum that can relieve your symptoms just by chewing, called Zoft Gum.
